The S-Cross certainly seems like good value for money in our preferred 1.4-litre engine choice. It’s gutsy and efficient, can be had with a generous list of standard kit, plus it has a good-sized boot compared with the 1.5 hybrid. It’s a shame, though, that the infotainment system is so slow and the interior quality is uninspiring.

The top trim adds Allgrip four-wheel drive, part-leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, built-in sat-nav and a 360-degree parking camera.

This 1.5-litre hybrid engine responds more quickly to your inputs than the Vitara hybrid, but is slower and less efficient than other rivals. It also sounds really buzzy when pushed.
