The Polestar 4 is stylish, spacious and swift, although we'd actually recommend going for the sweeter-steering single-motor car over the faster but more strait-laced dual-motor model. The lack of a conventional rear-view mirror has visibility drawbacks and won’t be to everyone’s taste, though.

There are no trim levels in the Polestar 4 line-up but going for this range-topping version gets you adaptive dampers and four-wheel drive. You might want to consider adding the Performance Pack, which includes 22in alloy wheels, high-performance Pirelli P Zero tyres, Brembo brakes and gold accents.

The fastest version gets two electric motors, making it four-wheel drive, and sprints from 0-62mph in a staggering 3.8sec. So it’s rapid in a straight line and you get adaptive dampers as standard (which aren’t available on the Single Motor car) but it’s not quite as sweet to drive as the slower, cheaper version of the Polestar 4.
