However, if you’re shopping for a seven-seater there are plenty of other options at around the same price that are more spacious and versatile. If you do buy an X-Trail, the front-wheel-drive e-Power in entry-level Acenta Premium trim offers the best value.

This trim adds larger 19in alloy wheels, a power tailgate, a head-up display, heated front and rear seats, electronically adjustable front seats with memory function and 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats. It’s expensive, though, and hard to recommend.

See full engine specsThe entry-level mild hybrid engine has 161bhp for a 0-62mph sprint in 9.6sec. It’s powerful enough, but a hesitant gearbox and noisy engine make this nowhere near as smooth to drive as the e-Power alternatives.
