There’s very little to fault with the Honda Civic e:HEV. It’s great to drive, practical and cheap to own. And while some rivals have more rear seat space and are a little quieter, the Civic compensates by being generously equipped and very efficient. If you do buy one, we recommend choosing the mid-spec Sport trim.

Considering the Type R's eye-watering price tag, it's a good thing that it comes packed with kit as standard, including 19in alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, privacy glass, adaptive cruise control, adaptive LED headlights, wireless phone charging and keyless entry.

The Type R’s 2.0-litre 324bhp engine (up from 316bhp in the last generation Type R) has such an appetite for revs that it's hard to believe that it is turbocharged. If you're looking for an exciting hot hatch, the Type R is king.
