The updated Citroën C4, especially in its temptingly priced, entry-level You! form, is worth a good look. It’s an easy car to drive every day, being quiet and comfortable. What’s more, it represents an affordable way into a coupé-styled SUV. However, some rivals are simply more well-rounded (the VW Taigo is better to drive and more spacious, for example).

This entry-level trim keeps costs low and comes with a decent amount of kit, including alloy wheels, dual-zone air-conditioning and touchscreen infotainment. It’s the one we’d recommend, although we can understand if you’re tempted by Plus or Max trim.

This entry-level engine is punchy enough for most situations and can run on electric power for short periods of time. It’s good on fuel and our engine of choice.
