Section: Version review
The BMW 4 Series Convertible is very accomplished indeed, with keen handling, an impressively comfortable ride (especially when adaptive suspension is fitted) and a classy interior. It’s even surprisingly practical, and should be easy to live with.
The trim
See full equipmentM440i models get all the stuff regular M Sport models get plus a limited-slip rear differential, M Sport brakes with red callipers, 19in wheels and adaptive suspension. Oh, and that brawny six-cylinder engine of course.
The engine
See full engine specsThis is the most powerful ‘regular’ 4 Series Convertible you can buy. Its turbocharged 3.0-litre produces a hearty 369bhp, which is deployed to all four wheels as standard. All that traction means whipcrack acceleration, with 0-62mph taking a mere 4.9sec. It’s in a high company car tax bracket, but official figures state fuel economy in the high 30s. More than 30mpg is certainly achievable in the real world if you drive sedately.
