Volvo Concept XC Coupe revealed

The Volvo Concept XC Coupe has been revealed at the Detroit motor show.
The XC Coupe is the second of Volvo's concept cars based on the new Scalable Product Architecture, and, according to design boss Thomas Ingenlath, gives a hint as to the looks of the next generation of XC90 SUV, which is due on sale at the beginning of 2015.
'Front lights, grille, rear lights and the surface treatment are all identical to the next XC90', he revealed to What Car?
Ingenlath also admitted that the minimalist interior of the show car gives clues to the cabin of the forthcoming production SUV. 'It will be in the Scandanavian spirit so it will be simple, but we haven't taken away too many buttons to make it look sparse. There will be lots of attention to detail and quality,' he said.
Unlike the XC90, however, the XC Coupe is a two-door SUV-style car. It comes complete with 21-inch alloy wheels, wide wheel arches and a floating front grille.
It also features traditional SUV elements such as side mouldings and skid plates, but with what Volvo calls 'a modern interpretation'. The rear of the car aso comes covered with matt rubber mouldings.
At the front, the Concept XC Coupe has the same T-shaped daytime running lights as the Concept Coupe that appeared at the Frankfurt motor show in 2013.
Volvo is expected to reveal a third concept later this year, before the reveal of the production version of the XC90. This is set to give a hint to the future look of the company's estate models and is expected to appear at the Geneva motor show in March.
Volvo has spoken about the versatility of the SPA platform, which will underpin all of its larger models in the future. It will also offer a plug-in hybrid version of the XC90 in due course.
