Volkswagen reveals Beetle prices
* Entry-level Beetle starts at 16,490 * Cheaper model expected after initial launch * Hot-hatch version expected by end of the year...
The all-new Volkswagen Beetle will cost from 16,490 and is available to order from today.
At launch two petrol engines will be available a 104bhp 1.2-litre TSI mated to a seven-speed DSG semi-auto gearbox and a 148bhp 1.4-litre TSI with a six-speed manual 'box.
Three other engines a 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI Bluemotion Technology, a 138bhp 2.0-litre TDI and 198bhp 2.0-litre TSI will join the line-up later in 2012, along with the option of a six-speed manual gearbox for the 1.2-litre TSI.
There are three trim levels, with the standard Beetle coming with air-con, remote central locking and a DAB radio.
Mid-spec Design costs from 18,895 and gets 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth, MP3 connectivity, front foglights and a leather steering wheel.
Sport versions will cost from 21,220 and come with 18-inch alloys, tinted glass, cruise control, sports seats, parking sensors and climate control.
First deliveries are expected next spring.
Volkswagen says production issues prevented it offering a manual gearbox with the entry-level 1.2 model from launch. When it does go on sale, this version is likely to cost around 1300 less than the DSG verion.
The hot-hatch, with the 198bhp 2.0-litre engine, will go on sale towards the end of next year, with prices expected to start at around 25,000. It will be available in Sport trim only.
