Sharp rise in Honda Accord prices
* Prices rise by round 2000 a model * Honda says extra kit justifies increase * Saloon on sale June; Tourer in September...
Prices for Honda's Accord saloon will rise sharply when the new model goes on sale in June, with the entry-level model costing from 19,250 - a rise of around 2000.
However, Honda has justified the rises by saying that the Accord offers driving and quality standards that are the equivalent of those offered by premium brands such as Audi and BMW.
The car is being launched with three engine choices: 153bhp 2.0-litre and 197bhp 2.4-litre petrols and a new 147bhp 2.2-litre diesel.
It will be available in three trim levels: ES, ES GT and EX.
The entry-level ES trim includes 16-inch wheels, air-con, cruise control, vehicle and trailer stability assist, a Category One alarm and electric folding mirrors.
The ES GT level adds 17-inch wheels, half-leather seats, cruise control, an aerodynamic body kit, sports suspension and climate control. Prices start from 20,100.
EX prices start from 22,500 and it comes with DVD sat-nav, Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, full leather seats, heated front seats, a rear parking camera and a 6 CD stereo.
Collision Mitigation Braking, which slows the car if it senses an impending accident, is available as an option, as are lane assist and headlights that turn according to the angle of a corner.
The Accord Tourer estate will go on sale in September, with prices set to be announced later this year.
