Volvo's S60 offers a classy, comfortable interior and comes loaded with plenty of standard equipment. It's just a shame that it's not quite as good to drive as its German rivals, and resale values are weak.

Most of the GS's rivals rely on diesel power, so the big Lexus has something of a unique selling point in this class. It's comfortable and offers plenty of equipment, but is hampered by a small boot and a poor CVT gearbox.
