Overhauled Mitsubishi Outlander on sale

Mitsubishi's Outlander range now has a new 2.2-litre diesel engine and the option of a two-wheel-drive version for the first time.

The 175bhp engine is used in all cars with a manual transmission cars, while two-wheel drive models come in only in GX3 trim.

The diesel averages of 46.3mpg with the two-wheel-drive system and CO2 emissions of 162g/km.

Because the four-wheel-drive system in the Outlander sends engine torque to the rear wheels only when the front start to slip, it also operates as a two-wheel drive for much of the time.

Four trims are available besides a commercial-vehicle GX1 grade GX2, Juro, GX3 and GX4. Automatic gearboxes are available with the Juro, GX3 and GX4.

GX2 trim misses out on alloy wheels, but is fitted with climate control, front electric windows, alarm and a CD stereo. GX3 cars add alloy wheels, Bluetooth, USB connection and steering wheel-mounted controls.

Leather seats are a 1200 option, but come as standard on GX4 versions, which also get an upgraded stereo, reversing camera, heated seats, xenon headlights, electric sunroof and privacy glass.
