No fuelling mishaps for Audi TDI buyers

Audi has revealed a new fuel-filler system that will ensure TDI owners are no longer at risk of accidentally filling their cars up with petrol.

The new filler neck, which will be fitted to the Audi A4, Audi A5 and Audi Q5 TDI models, has been redesigned to incorporate 'contact points' that open an internal fuel flap only when a larger diesel nozzle is inserted.

The smaller-diameter petrol nozzle does not make such contact, which ensures costly fuelling mistakes can't be made.

Audi says that advances in refinement of its TDI engines have led to a significant increase in the amount of misfuelling incidents being reported.

The new system, according to Audi, should be of particular interest to companies running vehicle fleets, or private buyers making the switch from petrol to diesel-powered cars.

Audi says the system will gradually be rolled out to more of its models.
