New Tesla Model Y RWD and Skoda Enyaq Coupé vs Hyundai Ioniq 5: verdict

It was already a huge seller, and with the introduction of this new RWD version, the Tesla Model Y is more temptingly priced than ever. But are rivals from Hyundai and Skoda actually better?...

Tesla Model Y vs Skoda Enyaq Coupé vs Hyundai Ioniq 5 rears

Our verdict

The Enyaq Coupé is the most rounded car here and wins this match-up. It impresses with its comfortable and hushed driving manners, plus it has the best driving position and the longest range between charges. However, a stingy amount of standard kit makes the optional Clever Package pretty much a must-have, so the margin of victory is narrower than it might be.

Indeed, it edges the Model Y by a solitary point overall. Tesla’s smallest SUV is practical, safe, efficient and has a range that’s good enough for most. The fact that it’s the cheapest choice and the most generously equipped also adds to its appeal. If only it were a bit quieter and more comfortable.

Even the refreshed Ioniq 5, which finishes third, is far from disgraced. It’s still one of the better electric cars available at this price point, and with a smarter interior and more attractive PCP finance packages, it might well have secured a higher place on the podium.
