New Chevrolet Trax pictures and details
* New Chevrolet Trax SUV * Closely related to Vauxhall Mokka * On sale spring 2013, from around 13,500...
The new Chevrolet Trax SUV will make its full debut at the 2012 Paris motor show in September, Chevrolet has confirmed.
The all-new Trax will be a rival for supermini-sized SUVs such as the Nissan Juke and Skoda Yeti.
Although the Trax is closely related to the Vauxhall Mokka, which is due on sale in November 2012, the two cars share no exterior panels. The Trax has a more angular look, while the front of the car is dominated by Chevrolet's large two-tier grille. At 425cm long, the Trax is fractionally shorter than the Mokka, too.
As well as releasing new pictures of the Trax, Chevrolet has confirmed the engines that will be available. The petrol options will be a 1.6 that develops around 120bhp, or a turbocharged 1.4 that develops 138bhp. The diesel engine is a 129bhp 1.7.
The 1.4 turbo and 1.7 diesel will both have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. All manual models will have an engine stop-start system. Front- and four-wheel-drive versions will be available.
Chevrolet Trax has more angular styling than closely related Vauxhall Mokka.
All versions will come with stability control and a hill-start-assist system. Hill Descent Control and Trailer Stability Assist will be available on higher-spec models.
Plusher versions will also come with Chevrolet Mylink, a smartphone-compatible entertainment system that has a seven-inch touch-screen display.
Front- and four-wheel-drive models will be available.
Chevrolet says the Trax will have a large array of in-cabin storage features, and a fold-flat front passenger seat to increase maximum load space. There's a 60/40 split rear seat, and maximum boot space with the seats up is 358 litres.
Full prices and specifications are yet to be revealed, but we'd expect an entry-level price of around 13,500 when the Trax goes on sale in spring 2013.
