The Motability Scheme allows anyone who receives a higher rate mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or wheelchair accessible vehicle at preferential rates.

The goal of the Motability Scheme is to provide hassle-free access to new, reliable vehicles at all times, in order to give recipients greater freedom of movement every day.

Motability Scheme cars with five-star ratings

BMW 3 Series

BMW 3 Series front three quarters

The BMW 3 Series leads the charge in the premium executive class. Its primary appeal is in the way it drives, but its engines, standard equipment list and infotainment system are first rate as well.

Citroen Berlingo

Citroën Berlingo front three quarters

For the money the Citroën Berlingo offers unrivalled interior space and a relaxing ride. If you're after something more car-like to drive or plusher, it's worth looking at the Volkswagen Touran, though.

ford-puma-2021-front-corner

The Ford Puma is the most fun car to drive in its class, but you can buy with your sensible hat on, too, thanks to its low CO2 emissions, excellent real-world fuel economy and cleverly designed boot.

Peugeot 5008

Peugeot 5008 front and side

The Peugeot 5008 is stylish, practical, good to drive and our favourite large SUV. It's relatively affordable to run, especially if you don’t carry heavy loads and can go for the entry-level 1.2-litre Puretech 130 petrol engine.

Skoda Kamiq

The Kamiq is bigger and classier inside than either the Seat Arona or the Volkswagen T-Cross. It's more comfortable, too, and has some really clever features to help lessen the stresses out of modern family life.

Skoda Karoq

Skoda Karoq driving

The Skoda Karoq is a top-drawer family SUV with a flexible seating, a big boot and plenty of space inside for passengers. It’s also a pleasure to drive, thanks to its comfortable ride, great visibility and well made interior.

Skoda Octavia

Skoda Octavia 2021 nose

The Octavia confirms its place as a class-leading hatchback purely by the amount of space on offer, with a huge boot that’s far more useable than those of almost any of its rivals. For a practical, useable and enjoyable hatchback, it’s hard to beat.

Skoda Scala

Skoda Scala front - red

Don't discount the Scala on the basis that it's cheap. It ticks many of the boxes that some more expensive family cars fail to, with its supple ride, decent handling, good infotainment system, amazing rear seat space and vast boot.

Skoda Superb

Skoda Superb iV

The Skoda Superb is pretty comfortable, well equipped, great value for money and one of the roomiest cars in its class. Few premium rivals can match the Superb as an all-rounder.

Adding immense practicality to its hatchback sibling's list of virtues, the big-booted Skoda Superb Estate is comfortable, well equipped, great value for money and one of the roomiest modes of transport going.

Volkswagen Polo

Volkswagen Polo

It’s no surprise that so many people buy the Volkswagen Polo. It leads the class in lots of areas, offering a great choice of perky engines, good space inside and the sort of ride you’d expect from a good family-sized car.

Volkswagen Touran

Volkswagen Touran 2.0 TDI 115 SE DSG

The VW Touran is roomy, practical, very well built and good to drive. It's a bit more expensive than the Citroën C4 Grand Spacetourer, but worth the extra. We'd recommend SE or SE Family trim to keep the price down.

Volkswagen T-Roc

Volkswagen T-Roc front

Stick to the cheaper trims and engines and the Volkswagen T-Roc is a fine buy. Its soft ride, spacious interior and big boot will appeal, while its high-set driving position is a feature that many other small SUVs fail to deliver.

Volvo XC40

2021-Volvo-XC40-review

The What Car? Award-winning XC40 blends generous passenger space and a practical boot with a quality interior and top-notch safety. That means you aren't only buying a hugely desirable product, but one backed up with real substance.
