The number of British-built cars manufactured for the domestic market has risen by 21.1% in the first two months of the year to 33,813 units.
More than 250,000 cars were built in total during the period, a 2.0% fall compared with the same period last year, most of this due to political instability overseas, notably in Russia.
Exports accounted for 75.1% of Britain’s output during the first two months of 2015, compared with 79.7% for the same period last year. The number of cars produced for the home market has risen by 51.9% since 2009.
Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, MG, Mini, Nissan, Toyota and Vauxhall all assemble cars in the UK.
The Nissan Qashqai is produced in the biggest numbers with 500,000 cars rolling off the production line each year. In January and February 2015, 6476 Qashqais found homes in the UK.
