The latest round of Euro NCAP crash test results has been released.
Models covered include the the Mercedes-Benz GLA mini-SUV, the Renault Twingo and Toyota Aygo city cars, and the Citroen Berlingo mini-MPV.
The GLA earned the full five stars, matching its Audi Q3 and BMW X1 rivals. It scored well for all four criteria – adult, child and pedestrian protection and the effectiveness and number of safety assist systems fitted.
In the city car class, the Toyota Aygo and Renault Twingo joined our 2014 City Car of the Year, the Hyundai i10, in being awarded four stars. They both performed well in the occupancy and pedestrian tests, but were marked down for the safety systems they offer.
The Citroen Berlingo scored only three stars. Limitations concerned the protection for adults in the front seats and a shortage of effective safety systems.
Peugeot's Partner has also been awarded three Euro NCAP stars, because it is so similar to the Berlingo. The same is true of the Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1, which both gain a four star rating on account of them being closely related to the Toyota Aygo.
