Free driving lessons for youngsters

Newly qualified young drivers who are most at risk of crashing can get free training under a new scheme.

The Automobile Association Charitable Trust for Road Safety and the Environment is offering 2000 Drive Smart packages, to at-risk drivers, which comprise of two one-hour training sessions by an AA instructor.

To be eligible, drivers must have passed their test in the previous 12 months and have had an accident or points on their licence.

One-fifth of drivers have an accident within a year of passing their test and more than three times the number of teenagers were killed on Britain's roads in 2007 than by knife crime.
