Electric Car Awards 2023: Best used electric large SUV
With electrified cars now coming in all shapes and sizes – and available to suit every budget – we’ve named the best models in every class. Here we look at the best used electric large SUV...
The Skoda Enyaq may look rather conventional next to one or two of its modern electric SUV rivals, but don’t be put off: it’s one of the best around, new or used, regardless of size.
The Enyaq is good to drive, comfortable, practical and refined, plus it comes with a decent range. The cheaper 60 version we favour pumps out a healthy 177bhp, so performance is decent, and it steers, grips and handles with more aplomb than you might expect from what is a sizeable electric SUV.
Inside, there’s masses of room front and rear, as well as a large boot, so holidays with the kids and all their paraphernalia won’t hold any terrors.
Indeed, we think an Enyaq is an ideal choice for families anxious to dip their toes into the electric car market but put off by the high purchase prices of most new ones. Buy one used, as we’re suggesting here, and you’ll find the Enyaq great value for money.
Prices start at just £26,000 for the earliest, 2021 cars. That’s a useful saving on the price of a new one, let alone on the price of a Genesis GV60 – our pick of the bunch when bought new. Like for like, a used Enyaq is cheaper to buy than rivals such as the Audi Q4 e-tron, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, and it’s a better car to drive – as well as being much better furnished inside – than the closely related Volkswagen ID 4.
The 60 version has a 58kWh battery and a decent official range of 247 miles, although admittedly some of its more expensive rivals can go farther. If you need more range, you can move up to the 80 model (339 miles), but you’ll need to stretch your budget to around £33,000. There’s even a swoopy coupé version and a sporty-looking vRS trim level, but these are too new to make sense as used buys.
Whichever one you go for, the Enyaq is a smart and eminently sensible SUV, and – bought used – great value. It could be all the electric car you’ll ever need.
