Car write-offs
Im thinking of buying a car that was a write-off but has been repaired. How safe will it be?
Cars that have been classed as either category A or B write-offs should be crushed and never driven again.
Insurers class cars as category C and D write-offs if they think the hassle or expense of putting them right outweighs their value, but these vehicles can be fixed.
To ensure a repaired write-off is safe, pay for an independent mechanical inspection an MoT test isnt enough. Category C write-offs will also need a vehicle identity check go to www.vosa.gov.uk for more information.
Tell your insurer of the cars history, too, so that youre properly covered.
