Car of the Year Awards 2025: Best sports car money no object
More than anything, sports cars need to thrill you. Acceleration is important, but it’s finesse and feel through corners that matter most...
Aston Martin Vanquish V12
Certain car names require an elevated level of attention when it comes to their revival. For Aston Martin, ‘Vanquish’ definitely appears near the top of that list; the original was something of a milestone in the brand’s history.
A hard act to follow, then, but we’re happy to report that this latest iteration carries that burden with ease. As with every version of the Aston Martin Vanquish before, a fire-breathing V12 lurks below the vast bonnet, with power now a colossal 824bhp, courtesy of two turbochargers. Yet there’s no lag when you hit the accelerator – just smooth, constant power, while you’re treated to a veritable symphony from the exhaust.
With precise steering and tight body control, the Vanquish is an easy sports car to place with accuracy and push hard through corners. True, it isn’t quite as agile as the lighter, smaller Porsche Cayman, but its vast power is easy to deploy, and the grins just keep on coming.
All of this comes at a high cost: a Vanquish will set you back around four times more than a Cayman GTS. However, if that’s not an issue for you and you’re after V12 thrills, buy a Vanquish. You lucky swine.
