Cadillac SRX
* All the car launches from Detroit * New Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XFR * Toyota Prius, too...
If the new Cadillac SRX has an air of familiarity about, that's because it is based on the Provoq concept car that was shown at motor shows last year, including London's.
The SRX is termed a 'mid-size 4x4', which means it's larger than a BMW X3 but smaller than an X5. It is now a strict five-seater, with the extra but impractical pair of folding rear seats of the old car having been dropped.
It will replace the current SRX, which has sold poorly in the UK, and go on sale in late 2009.
No engine or pricing details have been released for the UK yet, but it is expected to feature a diesel unit in its line-up.
The US line-up will include 2.8-litre and 3.0-litre petrol engines, both of which have better fuel economy than the units they replace.
All-wheel-drive, with an electronic limited-slip differential that transfers power to the wheels with the most grip, is an option. The system works in conjunction with an adaptive suspension system that reacts to the road conditions.
Other optional kit includes a pop-up sat-nav, adaptive forward lighting, a powered tailgate, Bluetooth, rear entertainment screens and a hard-drive audio system
Safety equipment includes curtain airbags, rollover sensors, trailer stability assist and front seatbelt pre-tensioners.
