Renault Kadjar
Renault's Nissan Qashqai rival now features bolder front-end styling, a more upmarket interior with a standard 7.0in infotainment screen and redesigned seats that are said to be more comfortable. The updated Kadjar is due to go on sale in the spring, with prices starting from around £20,500.

Skoda Kodiaq vRS
The Skoda Kodiaq is one of our favourite large SUVs and proof that having a spacious and practical seven-seat car need not cost the earth. This sporting vRS version features a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 237bhp and can do 0-62mph in 7.0sec. It's also the fastest seven-seat SUV to lap the famous Nürburgring race circuit in Germany.

Skoda Vision RS
Look closely and this motor show concept car previews the new Skoda Rapid, which will take on the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf next year. The Vision RS features a plug-in hybrid powertrain and has been revealed in range-topping vRS trim – both signifying a move away from today's value-lead model.
