2017 Jaguar E-Pace - exclusive reader test team preview

Following the success of the Jaguar F-Pace large SUV, the British brand's first such model, will be the arrival of the smaller E-Pace later this year.

Priced from £28,500, it faces tough competition against cars such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA. The E-Pace shares much of its mechanicals with the four-star Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Inside, the E-Pace has a driver-focused but practical layout, with a 12.3in infotainment screen in the centre of the dashboard. There's plenty of leg room and comfortable seats in the back, and a competitively sized boot.

Engines in the E-Pace are 2.0-litre petrols and diesels with between 148bhp and 296bhp, with front or four-wheel drive, depending on power output. A nine-speed automatic gearbox is standard, apart from two of the mid-range diesels, which get a six-speed manual, with auto as an option.

The E-Pace is well equipped, with kit including a rear-view camera and automatic emergency braking as standard.
