2016 Nissan Navara NP300 - engines and specifications
Nissan confirms that the all-new NP300 Navara pick-up will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015...
The all-new Nissan Navara will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motorshow on 15 September
What is it?
The Nissan NP300 Navarra is an all-new version of its one-tonne pick-up.
What engines can I choose from?
As you'd expect, Nissan says the new model is considerably cleaner and more fuel efficient than the model it replaces. The new Navara comes with a 2.3-litre diesel engine available in outputs of 158bhp and 187bhp, the latter being a twin-turbo model.
The new model comes with a choice of two- or four-wheel drive models and six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearboxes.
It's not just under the bonnet that there are significant engineering improvements. Refinement and ride quality were never very good on the previous car, and Nissan has sought to deliver a more SUV-like driving experience while retaining its off-road abilities. Two-seater King Cab versions get a lighter, quieter rear suspension. Passenger-carrying Double Cab models benefit from an improved multi-link rear suspension system which further improves the ride.
All models offer more than a tonne of load capacity and have an increased towing limit of 3500kg, up 500kg from the highest offered on the previous car.
How much kit will the Nissan Navara have?
Nissan promises that the new Navarra will be considerably better equipped than the model it replaces, and will feature several technologies not available on its rivals.
All around cameras and autonomous emergency braking are unique to the pick-up market, while options include cruise control, hill descent control and hill start assist, all of which, Nissan claims, are modified to best serve the needs of pick-up owners.
As well as extra equipment, Nissan claims to have learned lessons from its Qashqai and X-Trail small SUVs, which translates into a higher quality, ergonomically improved interior without losing the ruggedness needed for a vehicle of this type. Dual-zone digital climate control, a new rear cab ventilation system and improved seat designs are offered.
How much will the Nissan Navara cost?
Prices for the Navarra will not be revealed until mid-September, but are likely to start around £23,000.
The introduction of a five-year warranty with a 100,000-mile limit will ease the burden on customers who intend to put their new Navarra to work straight away. The previous generation car had a standard three-year, 60,000-mile warranty.
What are the Nissan Navara rivals?
The most significant rival is the recently renewed Mitsubishi L200, which has been improved over the old model in similar ways to the Navarra.
