2015 New York motor show preview

The 2015 New York motor show opens its doors on Wednesday, and What Car? will be bringing you news of all the exciting new metal on display.

New cars we're expecting to see at the show include the Mercedes-Benz GLE, the hybrid BMW X5 xDrive 40e and the facelifted Mitsubishi Outlander. It's not just a show for SUVs, however, with new metal from McLaren, Lexus, Kia and Jaguar also expected.

BMW X5 Hybrid
Offering fuel consumption of up to 85.6mpg with CO2 emissions of as low as 77g/km, BMW's X5 xDrive40e features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine working in conjunction with an electric motor.

Jaguar XF
Due to go on sale this autumn, Jaguar's new XF is aimed squarely at the likes of BMW's 5 Series. It's based on the same lightweight aluminium structure as the smaller XE, and will come with a range of efficient 'Ingenium' engines.

Kia Optima
Kia has yet to reveal full details of its new Optima, although we do know the car adopts styling from the Sportspace concept and will be taking on the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat in Europe.

Lexus RX
Lexus has so far released only a single preview image of its new RX SUV, but the model is expected to take inspiration from the smaller NX. It will go on sale in the UK at the end of this year.

McLaren 570S Coupé
The first model from McLaren's entry-level range is set to take on the Porsche 911 Turbo, and should have a price tag of around £140,000.

Mercedes-Benz GLE
Pitched against other high-end SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport, Mercedes' new GLE will reach UK showrooms in July.

Mitsubishi Outlander facelift
An update to Mitsubishi's Outlander SUV has been in the pipeline for a long time, with a concept version being seen at the Paris motor show last year. Now it's time for the production version to arrive.

Toyota Rav4 Hybrid
Expected to be launched in 2016, Toyota's Rav4 could be the first among its rivals to offer a hybrid option.
