This is the new Mini Cooper SD, a diesel hot hatch that sits alongside the Cooper S. It will cost £19,450 when it goes on sale in July.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel produces 168bhp and 265lb ft of torque, which means it does 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds. If you choose the optional six-speed automatic gearbox, it manages it in 7.2 seconds.
Mini claims the Cooper SD is the most efficient car of its kind; it'll do an average of 68.9mpg and emit 107g/km of CO2 with the automatic ’box fitted. It joins a handful of other diesel hot hatches, including the Seat Leon 184 FR, Skoda Octavia vRS and VW Golf GTD.
It will initially only be available as a three-door car, but it’s likely that Mini will roll out this engine to its new five-door model.
