The 201bhp diesel is impressively quick, with a 0-62mph time of 7.6secs (just a touch behind a Q5 40 TDI). There’s also plenty of low-end shove and a decent spread of power across the rev range. However, the diesel emits a coarse rumble during acceleration, and unlike in the Q5 40 TDI, that rumble is always there at a cruise, which can get a little tiring after a while.

Performance at low and mid revs is good but you’ll find that you have to work the engine quite hard to get the best out of it, causing a fair amount of engine noise.
